Joan Didion tells us that it is easy to see the beginnings of things, and harder to see the ends. Our Trinity careers have an official end, of course: for my class, that end is in a couple weeks. It seems to me, though, that now (and maybe this is just me) that we are going through the motions.
3 CommentsMost of you probably haven't, but I read through the entire Trinity SGA survey results that were recently distributed. I agree with many of the opinions on campus, and there is always room for improvement. However, running a college is no easy task. Some of the comments made me really frustrated and disgusted.
1 CommentsAs the summer draws near, many of us shift from the mindset of a student to that of an employee, either on a permanent or temporary basis. Whether it is an internship or a full-time position, most students seeking some form of employment will have to bridge the gap between the liberal arts education and the work of a technocrat - a gap that in my mind has become increasingly wide over time.
4 CommentsIn a speech delivered to the American Medical Association, President Barack Obama alleged that the current American health care system "rewards the quantity of care rather than the quality of care" given to patients. Now that American health care reform has been passed, I fear that his concern has been overlooked.
0 CommentsPart of the reason for the extraordinary length of the recently passed health care reform bill was that it also contained other provisions, including a "reform" of the student loan industry, in which the private student loan companies currently offering government-backed student loans, will now be replaced by direct government loans, supposedly cutting out the middleman.
0 CommentsPoor John McCain. The guy just can't get a break. Every time it looks like he's reached the point where he's politically secure and can legislate without implications, he gets a dynamic challenger that throws off his game. The former Republican presidential nominee is now fighting one of the worst primary battles of his life against former Arizona Congressman (and darling of the xenophobic wing of the Republican Party) J.
