Administration Closes $3.5 Mil. Spending Gap

Halfway through the current fiscal year, College administrators have cut $3.5 million from operating costs across most departments in hopes of finishing the year with a balanced budget. President James F. Jones Jr. called for immediate action upon hearing of the budget overrun in December and is signaling for a revamp of the spending attitude on campus without harming the College's core educational mission.

New Islamic Chaplain Arrives at the Chapel

With the promise of cultural diversity and understanding in mind, Trinity hired its first Muslim Chaplain this spring on a part time basis to provide religious support to the Muslim students on campus. The effort to hire Sohaib Sultan was spearheaded by freshman Shahzad Ahmed last semester.

Practiced VP of Advancement to Lead New Capital Campaign

On Jan. 19 President James F. Jones, Jr. announced the appointment of Ronald Joyce, a widely successful fundraiser as Trinity's new Vice President of College Advancement in a campus-wide e-mail. Joyce is currently Senior Vice President for Development at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and will begin his new position in the coming weeks.

A vigil was held last Tuesday in the chapel to honor the life and memory of Trinity student Andrew Clancy '07, who was shot Dec. 25, 2004, by a police officer responding to a domestic dispute call. Originally scheduled for Sunday, the service was pushed back because hazardous driving conditions over the weekend prevented a large number of students from reaching campus in time.

Summers suggested at a conference in January that the shortage of women in higher level mathematics and science is due to innate differences between the genders.Dr. Summers pointed to the fact that boys have achieved more top scores in tests than girls had.

Residential Life and OSA Combine to Form Office of Campus Life The two departments have merged operations in order to "deliver programs and services to our students in a complementary and efficient way." Amid title changes for current directors, the Campus Life Office has recruited Dave Andres as Interim Residential Community Coordinator.

Amherst: The college's Board of Trustees recently approved a student government request for $1,500 from the President's Office to go toward incentive prizes to encourage students to complete surveys. Each entry will automatically enter students into a lottery for an iPod or gift certificate.
