Last week, in a New York Times editorial, former President of Middlebury College John McCardell Jr. expressed his belief that the legal drinking age should be lowered. This comment sparked debate over the effectiveness of our current drinking laws. McCardell wrote, "Society expects us to graduate students who have been educated to drink responsibly.

Trinity College is an older institution and with its age comes long-held superstitions. One of the more famous ones pertains to the Luther-Roosevelt Long Walk Inscription. When I was in line to sit at the opening address of our new president I was first informed of the menacing superstition associated with this 85-year-old plate.

While the fierce controversy surrounding John Kerry's Vietnam War record seemed to have ebbed, another barrage of attacks on the presidential hopeful's uniformed past has emerged. This time the attacks come from the Rapid Raft Veterans, who in their new book, Disqualified for Leadership, contend that one of Kerry's three purple hearts was undeserved.
